The Symposium on "Inclusion and Development" Accessibility Strategies

On December 4, 2018, International Commission on Technology and Accessibility of Rehabilitation International, Promoting Accessible Environment Construction Office of China Disabled Persons' Federation, Institute for Accessibility Development, Tsinghua University and China Braille Library co-organized the Symposium on "Inclusion and Development" Accessibility Strategies to celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons in Beijing. LYU Shiming, Vice Chairman of the China Disabled Persons' Federation, attended and presided over the symposium.

 

Kawamura Hiroshi, Global Chair of International Commission on Technology and Accessibility of Rehabilitation International, and Kwan Kwok Lok, Vice President of the Asia-Pacific Region of Rehabilitation International, talked some important factors about accessibility elements within the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and introduced the concept and cases on universal design in Japan and Hong Kong.

 

LYU Shiming pointed that the Chinese government had realized the significance of improving accessible facilities in public areas and would make new laws and policies on accessibility. We would seek more opportunities with international organizations to increase the social awareness of accessibility and build an accessible environment in China.
