From "Disability" to "Diversity": Special Education Subjects from Inclusive Education Perspective

About the speaker: Mao Yingmei, Associate Professor, Department of Special Education, Special Education College of Beijing Union University; Member of the Work Committee of the Beijing Fengtai Committee of China Zhigong Party; Member of the 13th Beijing Municipal Committee of the Political Consultative Conference; In the past decade, he served as a specialist who engaged in special children’s education, research, and practice at the China Children and Teenagers’ Fund. She also worked on assessment and technical training at the disabled children’s rehabilitation centers in various cities and provinces across the country, and involved in children’s development assessment, the study guide for classroom instruction, and game intervention programs and supervision at different inclusive kindergartens, ordinary schools, and special schools.


This lecture is to explore how to achieve high quality of the “Inclusion” from the perspective of “Inclusive” education, to analyze the way in which inclusion’s attribute converts formalization to substantiality from the dominant and recessive education through focusing on different periods and types of special education needs, and to suggest how to encourage people to accept “disability” and promote “diversity”.
